This page is dedicated to short film reviews that were published at Afisha.ru website. They are all in Russian, and the reason why I decided to upload them here is to make them more readily available. A couple of reviews on the Russian site are already buried under a slide of other texts, so republishing them here is simply a matter of making a justice.

    How du you see the Russian TV drama “Russian Translation” (NTV-kino, 2006 / A.Cherniaev, E.Volodarskij, I.Korneljuk after A.Konstantinov’s “The Journalist” novel. I’d found such a post at A.Konstantinov website from UK or US (?) and think it’s great: ” My husband and I just finished watching “Russian Translation”. All we can say its a movie worth every nomination available. The truth, realism, and the center figure are portraited in neutral way which is unusual for Russian culture but impessive. Words can’t describe how much appreciation we have for your and movie crew talant. Thanks to all of you. Leonid and Galina Buchman.” May be this new Russian movie bought by 1TV more than a year ago but never presented for open public jet will be interesting for you.

    Hi,

    Thanks a lot for telling me about the film – I definitely haven’t seen it. I just read some information about it online, and it appears to be the kind of political drama that, however interesting, may be slightly difficult to understand in the West. Perhaps, this is the reason why it has never been screened.

    1TV – do you mean ITV1, the English TV channel?

    I am sure it would be interesing, not only to me, but to everyone who is interested in modern-day Russian cinema.

    Thank you for your interested reply. The 8-series TV but 35 mm shooted drama about Aden civil war of “Marxist tribes” actually in January 1986 and the Soviet-PDRY and Soviet-Lybian relations in 1985-91 presented through the point of view of Leningrad’s young Russian arabist interpreter was to be presented at 1TV (former ORT) in Moscow
    since April 2006. As I knew form the Web it was really presented by Russian TV in Canada in the end of 2006 (as well as by one chennell in Belorus this March!) I know, the information of the film was given to BBC people when in Moscow in 2006.
    There are hundreds or even thousands of veterans of Yemeni colonial small-war 1963-67 in UK may be the movie as well as another people having similar experience to watch the movie with interest (but the shootings took place in Russia, Azerbaijan and Tunisia instead of Yemen (Aden) and Lybia). The similar Middle East related series – “Operation Desert Sands” (an Iraqi war based comedy!) was started in 2004 by HBO but its future is still not clear.
    As for this film’s place in the modern Russian cinema, will it play some role or not, I really was impressed by the English-speaking watchers accurate remarks which I’d never seen in some Russian reviews! It confirms my conclusion that with this political detectiv movie a “post-socialist realism” finally was born, ‘in sha’ ‘Alla…

    Hi, I’m glad! The film finally was presented at the 1TV from September 11th till 20th, but with all “drinking translators scenes” cut avay and the subject line “upgraded” along the general line – there will be something “new” to look at when a new “perestrojka” comes once again.     Hi,

    it’s great that the film was screened on TV. However – I can’t see any articles printed on Wikipedia pages you’ve sent. Have they not been approved yet? Also, by experience, if you give a Wiki article a name in Cyrillic, only the start of the URL string will be displayed, and the user will be directed to the main Wikipedia page and NOT to the article’s page. So, if this Russia article hasn’t been written yet, it might be an idea to rename the page so that it’d be in English but also have a mention that the article is in Russian.

    Hi,

    Yes, this is what I meant when I said that no articles were printed. I can open both pages (although I still say that the Russian link you supplied only leads to the landing page, though it may be accessed OK from Google search results), but there’s no text in either yet. Now that you say that both articles are under development, it makes sense :-)
